Hi folks, I acquired a Western green toad [anaxyrus debilis] and wanted to get some experienced opinions on UVB, i read on two different websites that they need some uvb but have also seen careguides that fail to mention it, as well as all the information suggesting that most toads need no uvb at all or it can be detrimental if they get too much. Does anyone have any thoughts? Maybe I should set up a lamp with weak uvb to be safe, or would that just hurt him?
most frogs do not require UV lighting to help them produce calcium in captivity. it's the supplements that we dust their food with that covers that. now, i am not a toad person, so i can't speak with any authority on them, but, as far as tree frogs and darts go, no UV is required. it is thought to be helpful for some, but not a requirement. i know that's a kind of vague answer, but i hope it helps a little.

Thank you, it seems from where I'm standing very few frogs need uvb, so I switched out his light for an old one I used to use on an aquarium. At least I have the bulb and lamp on hand now in case I learn something new. c:
there ya go! there's a lot of theory and conjecture surrounding UVB and frogs, however, nobody has been able to back up scientifically whether or not it is beneficial to any frogs or toads. until i read info otherwise, i just don't use it.
