I woke up this morning and checked on my pyxie, he was laying flat against the bottom of his water bowl with his eyes closed. He usually does this if someone walks by the enclosure I guess in an attempt to hide, but this time it didn't seem like that. I misted him to get a reaction, no reaction. So I put on a glove and picked him up, at first he didn't move at all. Then he hopped into his hide. What is this? Is he alright? Usually he would freak out and try to get away from me when I pick him up to put him in the feeding bin.
-20 gallon enclosure
-water changed every day (spring water)
-two hides on either side of the enclosure
-humidity 60-80, temp solid 80
-feeding on crickets and red wigglers
-rep-cal every 4 days
man this one is tough to say...i know they usually do that when they get scared but if it was just doing that im not sure....i dont think they can sleep underwater since they breath air....but good luck with ur frog...hope things get better
Mine used to do that until i got a 40w bulb for during the day directly over the water bowl, and a heatpad underneath for night both set on auto timers. He loves to sit in the water while under the light during the day, it keeps him hydrated, and warm at the same time! Then at night he burrows close to the heat pad and is a happy fellow![]()
feed him some pinky rats! rats have bones and bones are a fantastic calcium resourse! he may perk up a bit. (:
