    Default My First Terrarium :o)

I started my First Terrarium today! Yeah!
My frogs are sooo excited. They are tired of being in a plastic tub!

Here are some pictures of the progress of setting it up. Most of the plants I bought did not fit into the terrarium, so I had to make some adjustments. I plan on adding a few small ferns, as well as more moss where I have some of the rocks and moss onto the roof of the hut. I also have a vine, but I am not sure yet if I will add it. It might make it too cramped.
Since this is my first terrarium, any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Very nice. One question though, do your chorus frogs actually take advantage of the coco-hut? Those are generally used with terrestrial species like darts, mantellas, and rubber frogs.

They do seem to like it. I will usually find 2 or 3 of them in it together. They also like to perch on top of it.

Very nice. What did you use for the background?

The rock background came with the Exo-Terra terrarium that I bought. The rock background features:
    Natural rock look
    Easily cuts to size
Insulates the terrarium, creates an extra dimension
    For tropical and desert terrariums
    Made of black, non-toxic polystyrene

My Pacific Chorus frogs are really enjoying their new home. They have been climbing all over the rock background. And finding hiding spots to sleep on it behind the leaves of the plants.

    Thanks Elaine!

There are still some things I would like to do and experiment with. I am just so happy I finally have it set up!

The tank looks amazing, Lesley! Are you sure you haven't done this before?? I might have to bring you to Canada and set up Yoki's tank....

Just be careful with those Exo Terra backgrounds - they often have gaps for cables behind them, and that can mean a frog can get in the back and may never get out again.

Thanks John. I had noticed there was a bit of a gap at the top, and was a bit concerned. I am making sure it is sealed/blocked just in case. They have been hanging out and sleeping at the very top of the enclosure, I will post some pics. They look to be too fat now to squeeze thru, but I don't want to take any chances.

I also added a fern to the enclosure today. And I will add some more flora soon.
The frogs seem very happy, and all 4 ate well last night, in spite of the noisy fireworks.
