Im setting up a 40 gallon breeder for tomato frogs w/ Eco Earth coco fiber (compressed bricks).
Which should i use for the bottom layer?

Either of those will work. You essentially want to use something that won't break down over time and will give your excess water a space to drain away form the soil. Be sure to make the depth of the drainage material at least 2" deep.

Thanks Paul. Since HomeDepot is right up the street, i'll go with the hydroton. Since I'll have a water dish (w/ Eheim shallow filter) and a fogger (crane elephant humidifier) I shouldn't really have to worry about a lot of water drainage. But it helps drain the urine and such.
