So recently I got a Pacman frog which was really exciting. Its been 2 days since I got him form the petstore and already im a little worried about my packy. It(Don't know gender yet)seems to be buried in the substrate and won't come out. Currently its winter here in California so my first thought was maybe he was hibernating. Also another thing i should mention is it's tank is in my garage on a rack where we keep all my other pets because we have no room in the house for his tank. So I let him alone for a day and when I check on it the next day he is still in the substrate plus he won't eat. I currently can't afford a heatmat for him to keep warm so im trying my best to find an alternative to what i can do to keep him warm. Anyone out there to give me some advice on what might be wrong with him and what i can do as an alternative to keep him warm as I try to get some cash to get a heatmat.
First off, answer these questions as that'll help us help you.

Second, it sounds like your pac is too cold from the description you've given. In all seriousness, if you can't afford a thermometer/hygrometer and the equipment to keep him warm you need to return him to the store. There are no substitutes or less expensive options here; either keep him 80-85 degrees during the day and no lower than 75 at night, or he WILL get sick and eventually die.
You've got a pet with the same responsibilities as a cat or dog; that includes heat and potential vet visits. I'm not trying to be mean, but if you cannot afford the basic essentials (heat mats are nothing compared to a vet visit) you need to seriously consider whether or not you're ready for a pacman frog right now.

I appreciate the feedback, I was able to get a friend of mine to let me use his heat pad for a few days while i try to get my own.
Excellent news. If you'd still post the answers to the Trouble in the Enclosure sticky we can help you troubleshoot other aspects of your husbandry (I say this because it sounds like you picked him up from a petstore, and they are known for giving out shoddy information).

yea thats true. Another thing though can i use a heat lamp as a backup
and again really appreciate the feed back
Yes, but do you have a thermometer to measure temps? Again, please answer the questions in the link provided. Without knowing how your frog is being kept it's difficult to give recommendations.

It's been stated many times above, you need to answer the trouble in the enclosure questions. Once those are answered everyone else can give you tons of info on how to fix everything.
