Hello, is the probe that's taped against the wall with the matt were your temps will get read from? If so you don't want to put it right on against the matt because it is going to read a way higher temp then the tank actually is. For a more accurate reading try to place it the middle or a couple inches away from the wall. And when you pick up your plants you will need a water dish, cant see if you have one in the picture. If you place the probe in the middle it gives you kind of an idea what the whole tank is. Lets say its in the middle and it reads 80f you obviously know that towards the UTH its going to be a couple degrees higher and the opposite end will be a couple of degrees lower. Or if that analog one you have on the side is the one with the temp and humidity built into 1, if you place your probe a couple inches away from the wall with heat matt you will know what the temps are in the warm end and the analog will give you temps from the cool side.. You want them to be about an inch above substrate, and you want the temp to be inbetween lets say 80f to 85f during the day and let it drop a few degrees at night. Around 83f daytime temp would be perfect. If you cant hold humidity you can cover 2/3 of the top with saran wrap or foil and that helps. Oh one more quick thing is those analog gauges aren't the best, digital is better.

Already answered perfectly. I second the digital thermometer, way more accurate.
