    Question Thermometer brands

Goodmorning, I went out yesterday before cleaning my frog enclosure and bought the zoomed digital thermometer that you put the little probe inside the tank and the yellow part were your reading is sits outside. The problem im having is before this I used the all living things digital thermometers, they are little black circles that you can stick on the wall. Now that I have changed to the zoo med one I cant hit my temps. The all living things thermometers are always 2 to 3 degrees higher. And I have 3 of them and any were I put them in the house they will all read the exact same temps. I put one in the enclosure today beside this probe and it was 3 degrees higher. My question is now that I have discovered my temps are off and its driving me nutz would you go with the zoomed one or just stick with what I was using. I figured I go for the name brand that's why I decided to change. Any advice would be great. Oh and yesterday before I put the zoomed one in it 73f which was exactly what my thermostat read for the room temp, this is why im stumped.

i would stick with the digital, personally. the analogs are rarely ever calibrated properly. on average, your tank should read slightly different temps than ambient room temp. normally a bit lower, due to the moisture in the tank. water normally stays a few degrees cooler than ambient.

Digital is more accurate than analog in a vivarium for sure. Though I switched to using aquarium glass thermometers in all my tanks. They have been fare more reliable than anything else. Digital Thermometers can read way wrong if they get wet.. got tired of wondering if the readings were right.

Thanks again for the help guys, I have never used the analog because I heard that they can be really off. I think im going to use the all living things ones for now since that's what I have been using till now and the frog seems to fine. But if I did decide to go with a glass one would it be ok to use with a pacman frog. Theres nothing in the tank hard enough for it to break on but he wouldn't be able to break it some how on his own would he? I was actually reading another thread that you guys commented on about the glass ones so I was kinda already thinking about it, I was just waiting for someone to respond about the others first, and there was a picture in the thread so if I do get glass I know what to buy.

If you decide to go with a glass thermometer, I would suggest super gluing it to the side of the tank somehow. Super glue is safe, as long at the frog doesn't touch it while it is wet. The reason I say glue it, is to keep it vertical. If it were to tip and the frog gets on it, it could break. Better be safe than sorry.
