Humidity trouble with white tree frog

I was wondering what kind of foggers are recommended for use with my tank. I recently ordered a hygrometer digital and temp gauge I believe it's the one that can regulate the fogger and temp as well. The zoo med fogger and Exo terra had terrible reviews online and I was wondering what everybody uses and recomends. I am having trouble keeping the humidity above 20% dry heat in the winter in new England. I'm misting and have a large water dish over my uth to try and increase the humidity. I don't use the Eco warth because my frogs hate the way it feels on their skin. They Try and wipe it off with there cute sticky fingers. Any suggestions? I have the 18x18x24 exo terra viv.

Did you try covering half of the lid to restrict airflow? Humidity is caused by water evaporating in the tank, so if you prevent it from escaping, as long as you have both water and heat in the tank the humidity should shoot right up. For example I don't mist and my humidity varies between 40 and 80 percent, averaging around 60. If the tank does up it drops to 40, if I dump a bunch of water on the substrate it'll be 60 or higher.

I should add don't cover the whole top or pestilence can thrive. Whites enjoy it dryer than say red eyes or darts...

I covered half the top of the screen top this morning and I'm going to check in and see how the humidity is after I get home from work normally when I come home from work the humidity is almost at zero. I know all the dry heat being in all the time and being in Massachusetts doesn't help because winter air tends to be dry anyway. I may not have a choice to install a fogger but some require holes in the screen to do that which I don't approve of personally. If covering half of the top of the tank still doesn't help any other suggestions

ok, a few things. do you have the uth, under the tank? and a bowl on the glass inside the tank to raise humidity? it's not going to work because that uth cannot heat the tank glass AND the bowl material. it's just not designed for that. if you are going to use a uth in a tree frog tank, it needs to be on a side of the tank, and even then, they are relatively useless. look into domes and ceramic heat emitters. there are numerous discussions on the forum about this very thing. another thing, yes, i agree, you must absolutely cover at least 50% of the top in order to retain any humidity other than ambient room humidity. everything is just ventilation out of the top, as Scott mentioned. Eco earth (or anything similar) is helpful for retaining humidity. of course the frogs don't like it. how to solve that? leaf litter. it's cheap and more natural for them. forest floors, like where they live, are covered in leaf litter. yes, i know they are a tree frog, but they are not canopy frogs, like red eyes. think more along the lines of a greys tree frog or american green tree frog. they live in the lower part of the forest. so they won't object to leaf litter.

not quite 100% true. even though the care sheets say 40-60% or something like that, remember that their range goes from almost arid areas bordering the outback to the topical rain forests of indonesia, where conditions are not unlike those of the amazon

that's what makes them such wonderful beginner frogs. as long as they are healthy, they will acclimate to such a wide range of habitats, that you can get away with making a few mistakes along the way, and the frogs will be fine

care sheets are nothing more than guidelines.

i kept my white's in near dart frog conditions and they thrived and never had any issues. they are now happily living with a breeder friend of mine in the same conditions since i moved to darts

I use one under the tank heater and then I have the two daylight bulbs at the top in the deep domes that I also use a uvb 2.0. IWill trying get my hands on some leaf litter I have not seen any in the local pet stores but I'll look a little harder. Is there any leaf litter better than others? Did some quick research and found multiple types of leaf litter. Should I discard it as it breaks down since I dont have a natural set up? as For the top of the tank being covered I did not see any increase in humidity from this morning or any added humidity retention. I am waiting for my digital humidity gauge and thermometer to come in the mail I order them today online. Thank you everybody for all the great ideas I appreciate all the help

You'll probably need to order the leaf litter. Neherp.com are up there somewhere and carries nice leaf litter. Blackjungleterrariumsupply.com is in MA and also carried nice stuff

Until you decide what route you are going though, why not add about a 1/4" of water at the bottom of the tank? As long as there are places to climb, it will just be like a big water feature to them. And crickets shouldn't drown in that little water on the carpet. That may help with the humidity.

II will definitely try adding water to the bottom at this point but I'm gonna trying get my hands on some of that leaf litter as well cause I'm not sure I love the idea of free flowing water without a filter. Thanks again.

it won't be free flowing long. it will evaporate rather quickly. make sure it's dechlorinated water

k only use Poland Springs 100% natural spring water. The water has already risen the humidity from zero to twenty percent and is still rising. So glad you are all here for the much needed support.

how is the humidity in the tank today?

Still too low but better than it was yesterday when I came home from work. it was about a 20% and there is still about a quarter inch of water in the bottom of the tank. Half of the top of the screen top is covered as well. Do you think I should cover more than half? I'm worried about restricting too much airflow. I'm going to order some leaf litter online and put some of that in there and see how that does not sure how soon I can get it shipped. I'm also going to add extra branches and things to climb on and fill the tank a little bit more to and see if I can get the humidity to rise and keep it there. Do you think the leaf litter would keep the eco earth off the frogs skin?

The leaf litter definitely will. If the frog can't get to the cocofiber, they can't get it on their skin.

that also may be apart of your problem. Those things are fairly accurate for temperature but humidity is pretty off.
