Hello. I've had my pyxie frog for about one month now. "His" name is Gromp. Gromp is still scared of me when I pick him up to place him in the feeding tub and hops into his hide if I walk anywhere near his terrarium. I try to be as slow and discreet as possible, but half the time I scare him into his hide just walking by. I am 17 years old and my parents house just got foreclosed on, so we have to move out into an apartment. I'm also moving into my dads when I turn 18 in March. I understand the moving process might stress Gromp, and I'm worried. How should I transport him to cause the very least amount of stress possible? Advice would be very appreciated.
It won't cause an extreme amount of stress to move him as long as you do it gently and make it as quick as possible. You could put him in a smaller container with plenty of substrate and covered sides to make him feel more secure. As for being scared and hiding, that's just what the frogs do. Mine still ducks under the water every time I walk by after 2 years and it gets very minimal handling and most often will be fed if I'm coming close to the tank. Just follow the care guidelines closely and your frog should be happy.
