Zoo Med Naturalistic Terrarium on special at Petsmart

I just got one of these:



Zoo Med Naturalistic Terrarium 12x12x18 inches (30x30x45 cm) from Petsmart for $44.99 + sales tax (limited time special offer). Pretty stonking deal. Going to put thumbnail dart frogs in it. I'm going to fruit fly proof the front vent and doors, and put a glass panel and a vent on the top instead of the included mesh screen. Exo Terra makes a similar product with a trickier door catch and double doors, but I avoid those because the one I bought leaked and the door frame wasn't even. Now it's Zoo Med's turn.

If all goes well, it'll be a superior version of my 10 gallon aquarium conversions, because of the removable lid and dual venting (in the base of the door and in the ceiling). A lot less silicone and time involved, plus the glass is better quality than aquariums.

I'm sure it's the same at other pet stores as well, but I've noticed that holiday weekends seem to be a good time to go for sales at Petsmart, John. Sometimes you'll even find frogs at half off. That's when one of my friends got her latest White's.

I really like those Terrarium's, Ive never seen those here. Only the Exo terra. Ive already got 3 at various sizes, Im saving to get the largest one which is 36x24x24 inches (I think that's the Largest) I hope we have a sale coming up.

I have one of these. Love it for my Dumpy. Just double check to make sure door shuts tight and the lock clicks in to place.

I believe Zoo Med recently changed the way the door works on these because there were problems with them breaking. I'd love to see a photo of the older version. On this one there is a very satisfying click when the door locks (which is very easy to do). I have a hard time imagining accidentally not closing it right.

In other news, I successfully removed the rear of the door vent last night - going to put "No-see-um" mesh on the inside of it to keep the fruit flies in the terrarium. Getting the rest of the building supplies today. I'm going to make one of those Sodium Bentonite backgrounds that Mike and Emily use.

I just picked up the 12x12x18 a couple days ago. Just signed up here this will be my first terrarium.

I really like these Zoo Meds. Just be sure you seal it well - the door and the lid need work.
