He should be fine, don't worry. If you're feeling particularly curious, dig a small hole down and take a look at him. If he is aestivating he will have a thick pale layer of skin over him - it should be obvious. It takes a while for them to shed enough layers for it to look more like paper. He should completely ignore the little hole - just don't unearth him or pick him up, and once you are finished, cover the hole. If he is aestivating, just give the tank a brief spray of moisture every day or so.
