Hi, a day ago, i received a group of frogs from a well known breeder. Many of the adults received have ulcers, blisters, red blotchy bellies, swollen limbs, etc...The worst, dying within 9 hours. Tell me your thoughts.

My one thought is if this person is a well known breeder how would he let this happen? That's sad, im glad you are going to try and help them but im thinking these wounds are very infected and are going to need some kind of antibiotics.

Firstly, I hope you have contacted the person to discuss the problem with them.

If you already have, and they have not been helpful or were dismissive of you, I don't understand why you wouldn't call them out by name rather than just saying they are a well known breeder. Anyone else getting frogs should be able to see the track record of those who sell them. Certain suppliers have good reputations here from word of mouth, while others are avoided all together.

Really, the frogs should see a herp vet. Other than that, I don't understand the point of this post.

Is the frog in the first picture even alive, or is that the dead one. With all the problems listed is there anything a vet could even do to help these guys. They look like they would be in some pain to me, poor froggys. Sorry theres no question marks my computer is acting very funny.

Is it against forums rules to state the breeder? I personally have no reason to hold back or hide his name but did not want to break any rules.

How he deals with the problem: He was contacted and did dismiss any wrong doings on his end. When we contacted him about the female dying. He replied with a statement...Cut the frog open "I want to see the insides".

I've been trying to decide between darts or pacmans as my next frogject. I'm sorry you have to go through all of this. I hope it works out for you in the end.

It is not against forum rules as far as I know we just ask that you keep it respectful and don't bash someone or a company endlessly. You should however post a thread in the Testimonials section about this individual. Review the breeders website and look for any live arrival guarantees that he/she has stated they will honor. I hope you are able to get this all sorted out and I am truly sorry for you and your frogs

I have not dealt with Mikesphatfrogs, but that isn't saying much as I only keep Dart frogs. Mike is a member of the forum.

That's a real shame about your frogs. The one left alive will definately need antibiotics and care. I'm sure you can handle it and wish you the best of luck and hope your frog gets better. Until you take it to the vet make sure to quarantine it and give it a couple soaks a day in treated luke warm water with the essential mixings!!

I have no idea what essential mixings are either... Why say that instead of actually giving ataraxia the information to do what you're suggesting?

The two most common soaks you can do without a vet providing meds are honey and pedialyte. Honey soaks are usually used if the frog is impacted or is retaining water. Pedialyte soaks are used to get electrolytes/minerals into a listless or malnourished frog. Neither of these is going to hurt the frogs, and the pedialyte may be helpful, but IMO what they really need is a vet. I'd be really surprised if they don't have infections, and soaking isn't going to cure infection.

Sorry bud I was thinking my answer but not typing it out here. It was already answered. The honey+water, and the pedialyte+water. The danger of working nights. Guess I was more tired than I thought.
