Hi
I recently got myself a WTF and i love the little guy. Very calm and started eating they day after i got him!
I was wondering if i would add another one to the tank is it likely they are going to start croaking ?
I would have to get two females to to be sure there's no croaking, right? I really want another one but the tank is 1 meter from my bed in my apartment, and the fire bellied toads kept me up sometimes and the WTF croak is so much louder.
Any thoughts?
If you get a male it is going to croak at everything regardless of who it is with. My advice, get the friend for your other frog from a reputable breeder, and move your bed or get earplugs for sleeping. So far mine don't croak but I've only had them for a few months, they may be girls, or they may be shy, but my sister's frog croaks at traffic, the TV, the spray bottle, the dog, pretty much everything...
Are you certain your frog is a male? Have you ever heard him call? If not I suggest not getting another. Even if he is male, you might not want a second frog calling.
I have two males and while they're fairly quiet and don't call at everything they can egg each other on. It's like a contest to see who can call the loudest. Thankfully it never lasts very long. It only happens occasionally, about once at 2 or 3 am. Frequency of calling probably varies with the frog's temperament.
So if the start croaking it isn't non stop all night?
My firebellied toads used to croak all night, waking me up several of times during the night.
WTF calls are pretty sporadic. They get going for a few minutes then generally stop, like Elly says. Doesn't mean that during certain times they won't pop off more frequently, but it's not an incessant never ending song like a pond full of Pacific chorus frogs :P
Here's a good example of what can go on with a pair of males... one of my fav WTF videoshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huRznTMiF9U

I keep mine in my room but I tend to sleep through the calling or at least fall back asleep immediately afterwards. Keeping the humidity up when the heater's on does keep me from sleeping well though.
