Look, as I said he wont be able to catch the crickets. The crickets are too fast for him. Think of it like this, do you think an obese person can be as fast as an athletic person?(no offense to anyone out there. Just trying to prove a point.) The answer is no. Same with your frog, its supposed to be fat, but alas because its fat it cannot go catch the crickets. They depend on chamoflauge. Just get a large DEEP dish and put live earthworms in there. For best result try getting a 2-3 inch deep bowl.

Also hes probably still afraid of you and anyone else. I have a cane toad, named bubby. Shes afraid of everyone. Anyone picks her up and she pees on them. Lately shes been taming down. But it took her half a year to do that. Well since I got her. Like I said dont feed mice or any sort of rodent to your frog. Its extremely unhealthy for them.


As for your set up. I dont know much about your set up.

But heres what works for most people that I know that have these frogs(quite alot, since they are common.).

Make sure to cover the left, right and backside of the terrarium.
People say a 10gallon is okay for these frogs. Personally, I think thats a bit cramped. Even though they dont move much, they still move somewhat everyso often. So I say go for a 30 breeder. Their not TOOO big, but not TOO small. They tend to come with a lid that you can put a lock on. You can get em used online or buy them at a regular petstore. Petsmart stocks these.

You should most defenitely use REGULAR soil. Coco husk and all that stuff tends to stick to the frog itself, and ived had myself, and know friends who have had problems with these dirt. I mean put your hand on it, the dirt stick to you. Why wouldnt it stick to a frog? So. I would do a layer of 3inches deep of gravel on the bottom followed up with some sheets of plexiglass(thin), then 4inches deep of soil. You should get dried up leaves and cover the bottom with it. These frogs will appreciate it. I think joshs frog also sells them if you want to buy them rather than go out and get em.

Plants? Id say ferns, phelodendruns and the sort will work. Make sure NOT to put a real bright light in the tank. I would keep the plants potted.

Fake plants id say ivy?

Anywho, just stay away from rodents. You could still try crickets, but he wont be able to catch em and give up. Try slow items like worms, slugs, and stuff of the sort. DOnt try goldfish, reptiles, other amphibians, mammals, etc. Because they can transmit parasites or other stuff to your frog and are not healthy for it. Mice are mainly just made of fat. These frogs need to be fat, but they shouldnt get item sthat are high in fat.

Oh and just give him time to settle in. Sometimes animals take in a long time to get used to their owners. Just as a child takes time to get used to new people. Or better yet, new "parents". Food for thought.
Also, pebbles in the aquatic part is okay. Just because hes not going to consume them. He wont eat in the water. I f you put pebbles in the land area yes. So a dish with water and pebbles as a surface is okay. Just mak e sure to clean them daily, and watch him for behaviour.

Hmm oh, well my friends never took to crickets. They only took to worms, roaches, and stuff of the sort. Even slugs sometimes.

As John stated he shouldn't have any issues getting the cricket. Yes the are sedentary but also work the element of surprise by being ambush attackers.
My frog loves his crickets, and even though the lack in sight, they make up for it with their other senses. Yes, they are chubby little buggers, but never underestimate their speed when it comes to getting their grub on.

I placed in about 10 crickets today, and tried tong feeding him superworms and bought a mouse (just in case, since he was beginning to look thinner and becoming lethargic).

He's finally eating, he had about 5 so far, though he gets discouraged when he tries to bite one and it switches away just before hand, and refuses to try to eat that one again.

How many should I feed him a day?

Look, I'm getting a bit tired of this "try feeding him this or that cause what your feeding him is bad", Its been almost 3 weeks actually since He's had a mouse, Has refused EVERYTHING i've tried to feed him, just today I've managed to get him to eat superworms, He's getting thin and lathargic, and refusing to eat anything but that so far, I need to know the size of a potion at the moment, because I'd rather my frog die fat and happy eating something bad for him, than die because he's starved, thin, too tired to move, and unhappy.

He still won't eat worms or crickets, I cannot get roaches, I'm apparently not supposed to feed him mice or super worms, or fish or lizards.

What am I supposed to do here, he's going to die If i don't feed him something he will eat.

General rule of thumb for PacMans & African Bullfrogs I have heard is what ever they can eat in 15 minutes. My Pacman has not eaten for 2 days. Today he ate 5 crickets, and then snubbed his nose at any further offering. Don't worry so much on number or portion size. I know your frustrated, but keep trying.

Possibly spreading your feedings out to every two days, you will find him more hungry.
Last week my guy ate 12 crickets in one sitting, today he just made 5. He is also very sensitive to people being to close or if there is to much commotion in the room. I believed I posted in the past I generally feed him at 11:00 pm when the house is quiet, and I literally have to be at least 4 feet away from his "feeding Chamber" before he will eat. If I am to close, forget about it.

Maybe its is just my frog, but he is very tempermental.

I'm going to sound a bit mean suggesting this, but it worked for me. When I first got Zeppelin she wouldn't eat, so I dusted her crickets, used my tongs, and gently agitated her by rubbing it around her mouth. When she got angry with me and opened I popped the cricket in and she seemed to finally realize that it was food. She's doing well now and I'm able to simply put her in a feeding container with her food and she eats.

I feed my 2 PacMan frogs a mix of Locusts, Mario worms, earthworms and crickets. My large PacMan would only eat Locusts as that is what the pet shop fed him so I starved him and then started him on earthworms. Whereas my smaller Pacman is a glutton and will go for anything that moves.

I feed our Cane Toads and Pacman frogs the same diet. Are locusts a no Pacman frogs ?

I guess you just have to keep trying different things, have you tried small locusts ?

Maybe you're unlucky? Nobody at my pet store has been bitten, and I used them outside of work too when I had to feed a friend's bearded dragons. Or maybe we have nice superworms.

Did you try chilling the crickets to slow them down a little? You can do the same with the superworms if you think they are too active for your frog.

That he ate is surely a good sign though, so keep trying and good luck!

I have heard that if given a certain type of 'junk' food, such as mice, pacmans can actually become 'addicted' to it. I'm not necessarily sure if that's true, but I've read about that on multiple sides and would like to say that, if that shop was only feeding him mice, he very well might be hooked on rodents.
