So I adopted this frog, Pablo, that someone didn't want or couldn't take with them when moving a couple weeks ago. I hadn't given him a significant looking over until last night when I noticed he was having trouble keeping ahold of a slightly big but not too big for the frogs size dubia roach. He has a significantly hooked nose that gives him a bit of an underbite, I will post a picture later. His mouth closes fine, and he doesn't have an issue catching his dinner, just the bigger bugs seem difficult for him to keep ahold of.
The background I have on him is that he is supposedly about 6 months old, but was not much bigger than my others who were small froglets that grew quickly. They were feeding him meal worms, and there is a date on the bottom of the container that says 9/16. No vitamins or calcium were supplemented, but the jar of orange cube and cricket water were half used, so his previous diet probably also included crickets. The dirt he was in was quite dry, he did have a misting bottle and water bowl, but there's a good chance it was untreated. No heat source in a house maintained in the low to mid 70s.
Parameters have now been fixed, and he is getting his fill of well fed and dusted dubias. His feeding response is strong, and he is active, alert, and fights being handled. He has grown and filled out quite a bit in the short time I have had him. I haven't seen any poop, but he may be burying it. No sign of impaction, his sides are feeling full, but no hardness.
So the main question of this long thread, what has caused the hooked nose? MBD? Injury? Malformation? Then as a follow up, what's going to be my best course of action to get him as healthy and happy as possible?
i have a albino that has the same exact issue....from what members on here say, its a genetic thing and also a case of MBD....mine eats fine and seems to be ok...just has a hooked nose and the underbite as well
