Gator, my Southern Leopard Frog whom I have raised from a tadpole has had a tumultuous week. Last Monday I came home to find a part of the lid to his tank knocked aside. Probably by a cat trying to crawl on the counter so it could lay on an aquarium light fixture. I don't know how long he was out, but I spent close to 30 minutes searching for him before I found him 20 feet from the tank, hiding under a canvas bag under a cat carrier. I put him in his tank, duct taped the failed lid part, and watched and waited. He swelled up some, but still had a good appetite. By Wednesday he was normal again. Friday, the filter in his tank stopped working. I keep him in a half-filled 5.5 gallon tank with a bunch of floating wood. It has a large plant population of dwarf sag, water wisteria, and a duckweed mat on top. Anyway, Friday evening, I discovered that he had managed to jump inside the empty filter. I think he was stuck in there for several hours. Since then he hasn't moved around much and has been refusing food. Today he shed his skin. I am worried about the look of his feet. I am posting some pictures. I wonder if he broke his toes during his follies and a secondary infection may be taking hold... Can anyone help me figure out what to do for my little frog so he can get back to being happy and healthy?
Thanks!
