    Default Newbie Waterfall Pump Question

    Hi,

First, thanks to everyone for providing such great information on this website. It's been a lifesaver as my 7 year old son and I get ready to purchase some Red Eyed Tree Frogs. We are still in the process of setting up the vivarium, and we are building a waterfall feature. I just purchased the Repti-Flo 200 pump and I was wondering if it was going to be strong enough to push water up 24 inches. I cant seem to find that info anywhere. I am also wondering if its better to use the 1/2 inch or 1/4 inch fitting. Can anyone else confirm that the Repti-Flo 200 can handle pushing water up 24 inches?

Let me know, and thanks again.

    Regards
    -KAR

    Default Newbie Waterfall Pump Question

24" is a bit high for it. It only has a head height (the max height a pump will push water) of 19", according to it's spec sheet (water column spec)

You can buy $20 fountain pumps from Lowes that have a head height of three feet. I use one in my outdoor pond and have had no problems, just make sure to filter with gravity and not against it...

That is one big water fall!! I would echo the suggestion to buy a pump made for outdoor fountains. They have a lot more power and are made for pushing water that high. Also, I have found that most of the output areas on the pumps require 1/2" fittings. I would stick with 1/2" tubing. It can be a bit tricky to get it to go where you want it, but for a 24" water fall, 1/4" tubing may not give you the flow you want.
