Aquatic Terrariums?

Hi Everyone,

I assume this is going to seem like a very obvious and basic question, however I was wondering how keepers are able to separate the water from the land in terrariums such as the ones attached. Do they just pile the substrate us or are there techniques that allow the substrate to be separated from the water?

You can do it several ways (in short there is no one way to do it).

You can pile rocks or wood up above the waterline and then place soil on top of it.

You can build a false bottom

Those are 2 that I could think of off the top of my head.

Dealing with water feature in a Vivarium is a tricky thing and is something that takes trial and error to fully figure out for yourself. It is best to do as much research and pre planning as you can. The one thing you want to make sure is you keep the soil out of the water or it will rapidly grow bad bacteria and start to smell like rotten eggs.
