I have never done a false bottom

I drill --- for drainage---->and layer. ( bottom up ---> gravel /poly batting/fiberglass screen/ ABG )

Drill ? You won't be sorry ! No siphoning - lots of threads on this including all the parts for the drain ( from home depot)
