    Default My Teraechis paludarium

At first, how this all started. This summer, my old 54l aquarium got rupture in bottom glass, so I cleaned it, resealed and gave to my father (little village elementary school headmaster) and we turned it into vivarium.

After few weeks, we found local breeder and bought 3 cute Epipedobates tricolor (1 adult pair and one youngling). First day, they were very curious about their new home and checked every leaf and corner. At second day morning, male started to call and in the evening, there was first cluster (hope it's right term) of eggs.

So I took eggs to a petri dish, prepared little enclosures for them and just after they hatched, frogs had second cluster of eggs.

After some time I become more and more fascinated with those little creatures so I chose paludarium as my christmas gift. I visited Teraechis (small family company which provides terarist supplies and services) and ordered custom paludarium with lightramp and place for water feature, some plants and roots.
So the work on my piece of rainforest started.

I made my backgroung from well-makers expanding foam (certified for contact with drinking water), tons of silicone and coco fiber.
Most of bottom surface is covered with three types of moss colected in near forest, but there is also small slate stone as primary feeding place. In water section, there are living three Poecilia wingei and some snails from my aquarium.

For both questions, the moss there is bought as java moss so its probably Taxiphyllum barbieri. There are few patches on the log and waterfall, they just take their time to adapt

    Wonderful thread. Beautiful enclosures.
    Welcome Ssyx !

Bill ( our very own deranged chipmunk ) has brought us a long way, teaching us a lot about the plants we use.
We enjoying sharing and discussing the joy of seeing even the smallest growth of a crypt or any difficult plant that might be added.

I'm happy to read you Bill have had a conversation using the botanical names of plants on the fly ?

Not everyone can do that do that.
I personally have 'brain drain' when it come to remembering the sp names of most of my plants
My explanation of a plant goes something like this: "You know.. that plant you gave my that has the tiny little grass like leaves".
I'm exaggerating a bit ...... but that typically how it goes!
I need to provide photos Right Billy !

Again Welcome to Frog Forum ....Your enclosures and plants are lovely!
Looking forward to seeing more photos.

PS in post # 1 - I see you use a teaspoon to move tads. I use them as well. They are perfect. Baby spoons work great, to. Tads don't stick to plastic spoons very well.
Tip: Remember....don't share spoon(s) between frog species, you don't want to spread any bad things.

Yes, a typical plant conversation with lynn normally includes the phrase "you know the plant, the green one!" <groan> lol

The structure of the moss is very reminiscent of willow moss, that's why I asked. I don't think I have ever seen Java in macro view before lol

    The drosera, D. spatulata?

    Thanks for warm welcome,
For me, its easier to use latin names because our czech names are inunderstansdable for other languages (when they aren't based on latin name) and I don't know most of your common english plant names and some of them, we consider rather silly (as pineapple, various berries and roots )
And don't worry, I don't remember most of the names either even when I should, as a pharmacy student.

To the spoons,,, I read about using them in guidebook. And since I have only one species sharing is easily solved.

Bill: Drosera capensis. And in our country is quite hard to clearly identify moss that we can get in aquarist shop or on expos, many shop owners just buy them from Germany or amateur aquarist and just write what the seller said. so it may be a willow moss

Sweet D. Capensis is a sweet species. I have a few D. Filliformis growing in my big tank.

Taxonomy is not always accurate here in the states either when it comes to moss either. I've received improperly identified species of aquatic mosses so many times, it doesn't even phase me anymore lol

It's always easier dealing with Latin names, for the reasons that you stared, common names get thrown around too easily and improperly.

Sorry, I cannot be of any help here. Broms are out of my realm. Anyone who knows me, know I not only dislike broms, but I abhor them!! I only keep 2 neoregalia sp. because my Pumi's like them. I just do it for the frogs man lol

Hopefully someone will know the cultivar. It does look like a neo to me, but what do I know? Lol
