    Default Hello!

Hi there! I am a new frog parent, and I've used this website for advice tips and guides for a few weeks now, So I decided to become a member.

I currently have 3 Northern Pacific Tree Frogs (Pseudacris Regilla) named Pierre, Francois, and Gaston. I'm truly besotted with my little guys. They are so much fun! NPTF are super common in my area (southern Oregon) and I became a frog parent one super cold and windy night when I almost stepped on a teeny tiny frog sitting on my doormat, huddled up in a tiny ball. We live in an apartment complex with a lot of dogs (an especially vicious lab lives next door - he is constantly jumping up on the window and terrifying my cats) and I just couldn't leave him outside like that. So... my fiance and I adopted a frog. After keeping him in a tiny beta fish tank for the night, I went out and bought him a 15 gallon standing terrarium, which now holds a place of honor on my desk. After that, We found Gaston underfoot around thanksgiving, and Pierre made it inside on my purse strap.

I am a new frog owner, so I am always looking for tips and tricks, and doing my own research to make sure that the home I create for my little ones is A) good for them B) a fun place to be and C) makes them happy.

Currently I am using a coconut substrate, and keeping my humidity levels around 50-60%, while I try to keep the temperature around 65-70 degrees Fahrenheit. I don't want them to get too cold, because my apartment is a little drafty. They have a 2 inch Tupperware dish serving as their wading pond/ water dish for the moment. I've ordered some turtle rocks, and hydroball clay substrate so that I can convert the tank to a 50/50 mix of water and dirt, but until that arrives the wading pool will have to suffice.

I am only using plastic plants for now, mostly because when it comes to gardening, I royally suck. I can take care of animals really really well, but I kind of have a black thumb when it comes to plants. I did, however, find a tank decoration that my guys seem to adore. It is a small plastic tree trunk that was originally intended for beta tank use, but I decided that my froggies could do with a little excitement in their tank. They love it. It has plenty of places to hide and it is full of openings for quick entry and exit. We currently have a hanging plant, and lots of little ground plants for them as well.

I currently have on order a professional grade thermometer and hygrometer for the tank, because I am currently using a pretty cheap one, and for posterity's sake, I kind of want a better one. We are also waiting on some vines, more plants, and some frog moss. I've tried to do as much research as I can to make this a happy home, and I am constantly looking for new ideas for their tank.

I'm feeding my guys pinhead crickets every 2 days. Each frog has a different appetite, so I've kinda gotten a feel for it. I've opted for having a separate feeding tank at the moment, because the littlest guy (Francois) is a bit of a pig, and if I put their food in the terrarium he will eat all the crickets before Gaston and Pierre even think about them.

I think that is everything for now. I've posted a bunch of pictures of my guys (Except for Pierre, he's relatively new, and I don't wanna scare him) so I hope you see how cute they are, because I sure do!
