Parasites/Worms

Hello all. Has anyone had experience with parasites or worms in a whites tree frog? Please share.

IrThumper has had experience with cocci and whites. Not sure about worms though

Fecal smear was clear for worms but the float was positive for coccidia.

I just read this on a Dart forum... it was written by Dr. Frye in 2006, THE Dr. Frye who is the go-to herp vet as mentioned in the stickies here about medication and being prepared...

The only way to treat coccidia is lifelong suppression with drugs like Albon. Coccidia has never been eliminated from an infected frog, but you can stop the coccidia from breeding and therefore stop the frog from passing the disease into its environment. If you are "disinfecting" a tank that has been exposed to coccidia to put non-infected frogs into....STOP. Don't do it. Consider the tank contaminated, and only housed frogs with the same strain of coccidia in it until the end of time. It is the safest (if most disappointing) of the options.

Sounds like this means my guys will never be "recovered" or be able to have others added in with them... *sigh*

I'm not 100% sure , but I don't think this can be completely eliminated?
Like salmonella and a tortoise , for example, it's may always be there?

I would email Dr Frye? or ask a herp vet.
Keep in mind - one question to ask/mention?
If the frogs were on antibiotics ? does this make them more susceptible/prone to coccidia.

There may be a new/ different treatment approach to this? That information is kind of dated.

Thanks Lynn! I was so tried last night (had been up since 5:00 A.M.) that I didn't even let the fact soak in the info was from 2006... I will definitely double check with him for sure!

I've been going through some trouble with one of my white tree frogs Misty. I took her to the vet but I'm waiting to get a stool sample that's big enough to have it tested. I'm wondering because she's eating a decent amount and not pooping solid/ a whole lot, shes still showing signs of poop it's just runny and spotted all over the qt tank. The vet said she was pooping urites (which I've been managing by increasing humidity) if maybe she has a worm or something I didn't know if anybody else has ever experienced similar symptoms

Urates? Like white looking poops? I thought only lizards and snakes did that... Someone correct me here? I'm clueless!
