Hi folks, I recently picked up a juvenile male western green/anaxyrus debilis at Repticon. He's about the size of a quarter right now, and seemed to be the healthiest of the group. I've heard they're pretty easy to keep in captivity, but have also read some conflicting information about their setup and requirements, particularly with humidity levels. Here's my setup as of right now:
~ 5gal Terra Blue model terrarium
~Ambient temperature of 70 right now, but my room gets colder at night
~ A layer of eco earth, which I then covered with some repti bark because he was having trouble catching crickets without getting a mouthful of coconut.
~ Shallow water bowl
~ two hides, one of which has moist moss inside
~ a low wattage uvb light set to 6 hours a day via timer
I've been misting him daily somewhat out of reflex [my room is kinda dry and my American toad doesn't like it] but have heard different thoughts on this, with some people saying the enclosure should be humid while others say that can cause fungal infections. He's been pursuing small crickets eagerly so I assume he's eaten some, likes to sit under his light and is generally very active. Please let me know if there's any changes I should make or additions, or if you know which level of humidity is best for him?
I've also seen them housed in groups and was curious if this is better for their overall health.
