Here is a darn good reason why I'm going to be container feeding my frogs when not by hand-- look what sHEila almost swallowed with his medicated waxworm!! Actually he had a hold of the whole darn paper towel, and when I tried to get it out of his mouth he tore off the corner. I actually had to get a hold of him--and I'd forgotten my gloves like a dope, so darn good thing my hands were well washed-- and had to try to get him to let go. He wouldn't! So the only thing I could do was twist the paper towel until it popped out. Thankfully he didn't swallow any of it, but he scared me half to death, the hungry little monster! They got one heck of a grip I'll tell you that!

My frog did almost the same thing but he couldn't tear the towel no matter how much he tried. It just shows what a danger impaction is. Frogs absolutely can and will eat foreign objects. I imagine the species only survives in the wild because they have hundreds of children at a time.
I wouldn't necessarily be set on a separate feeding container. I did that with Paddy for a while because she was more aggressive than the rest and preferred slightly larger prey. No matter how calm she appeared about the move back and forth though, I do think it probably stressed her. I keep the floor of my vivs covered in live moss and leaf litter and bowl feed. I have never seen any of my frogs take a mouthful of substrate doing it that way. Because Paddy tends to be a little more aggressive, I use 2 bowls in their tank instead of just one, she tends to hoard the bowl and bite at anyone who comes near it. The other 3 are happy to share one bowl though. I have tong fed Paddy also to keep her busy while the others eat out of the bowls also. That seems to work out well to keep any aggression at a minimum.
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
I feed Sally in a bug catcher. I don't use substrate, just throw the crickets in so there is no chance she'll eat anything but crickets.
