Ummm, I believe that the net cups are intended for plants that aren't air plants. Bromeliads and other air plants are usually pinned or attached to wood or backgrounds. If planted, they usually rot and die. So to answer your question, yes you can grow other things with net cups, in fact you're supposed to I'm not sure about flowering, my mini violet hasn't flowered yet, but typically LED and t5HO yield the best results.
