    Default Quarantine opinions?

Thinking about adding another whites to my tank in the near future, but I need opinions on quarantine? How should I go about it, for how long, and what tank size? Thanks!

    Good for you !
QT is very important ...especially for this species !

A QT enclosure for a whites should be a minimum of 10 gallons in size.
"How log" depends on the results of the fecal test that needs to be done!
( All whites tree frogs should have ,at the very least, fecal testing for parasites)
So, you will need to find a qualified herp vet.
If this is an "additional whites" they need ample space in their permanent enclosure.
( more than 10/gallon per frog)

    Herp vet:

Supplies that need to be kept on hand:

    Care sheet:

Other tests (besides a fecal for parasites) to , very serioulsy consider, regardless of symptoms

    1)Ranavirus
    2)Chytrid Fungus (B. dendrobatidis)

This gives rise to a question I have within the same subject matter. My guys are still 2 each to a 5.5 gal QT tank. Everyone is around 2", except Jelly Bean who is maybe 1 3/4". I wanted to transition all four into a 10 gal tank together, but I still need to keep them separate apparently (even though all were together in the same tank at the same time at Petco) due to still being treated for cocci. However, I would love my guys to have more space, so would it be ok to move each pair into a 10 gallon tank at this point?

Absolutely. It's never an issue giving a larger species more room. Better to have more room than not enough.

Interested in how long I should keep a new frog in quarantine before adding to my terrarium?

There is no set time limit. The general average is 30 days. Some people go longer.

They sure do. That's why the tree frog forum is filled with posts that normally have tag lines like "need help ASAP, my frog is dying" or "something is wrong with me frog!" Sadly, most of those cases would have been prevented with a proper quarantine period. You have the added challenge of having existing frogs that a new specimen can infect, if there are any unknown medical issues and they are added in early.

I think it's not excessive to QT for at least 90 days after some of the tales I've heard... I read a post on FB from a guy who quarantined a female WTF for less than 30 days before adding her to his collection, and he wound up losing ALL the WTFs he'd had for 7 years due to the female being the host of some unknown parasites! Also another really good reason to test a frog before adding it to an established collection.

Good. Another reason I want to give them more space, even though they are still small is, as outlandish as it sounds I remember reading a post around here somewhere (I think it was FF anyway) about some guy who claimed he could "naturally dwarf" species by raising them from babies in smaller enclosures. I think that's malarky myself (not to mention cruel) but I've been wondering why my guys aren't growing bigger faster... granted it's been 2 months, and it could very well be because of the cocci issue, but I expected them to outgrow the 5.5 gallon QT tanks by now and they haven't...

Oh well, regardless it will be great to be able to give them more room, not to mention their new coconut huts, lol!

It is possible that small tanks could stunt growth. I know it happens to fish!

It would have to be an extreme case to promote stunting. A temporary enclosure being a bit small won't cause it. However, a permanent enclosure that is too small can not only cause a stunting condition, but added stress, which ultimately leads to an untimely and sudden death. We have seen that many times here on the forum.

I also want to amend what I said about qt earlier in that bigger is always better for a larger species. In the case of a pacman juvenile, you wouldn't want to go bigger, because the larger tank size would cause the frog stress, but as far as I know, they are the only ones that fit into that category. Of course, I could be wrong, I don't keep phat phrogs lol

Pretty sure it would take a lot to stunt a White's. There's a post here about a rescued grown White's that was kept in a kritter keeper. He was obese, had wasted muscles and got very sick but wasn't stunted.

Bill! One of those days you WILL get that phat frog! Lol

30 days at is a guideline. The frog can be released when:
    1. Frog is eating okay
    2. Frog is pooping okay.
The following is done and tested negative:
    3. Fecal test
    4. Preferably - chytrid and ranavirus test. These tests are especially important when you have more then one frog, chytrid and rana are devastating in big collections.

it Is important to keep a frog in proper qt enclosure, wet papertowels, 3 sides covered, easy to desinfect decor. Papertowels changed daily, if frog needs treatment, qt tank had to be cleaned and desinfected according to the treatment protocol.
Until qt lifted everything has to be done wearing no powdered gloves. That is not just for frog protection, but for yours too.

wc frogs are especially difficult, they usually come with a huge load of parasites and protozoa, that you have to treat. WC frogs don't leave the qt for 2-4 month on average.

To add to what Bill said about small tank size. Stress = short life span, nose rubs, lots of other problems, leading to death of the animal, inability to move around = obese frog = very short life span as well.
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!
