Thread: Aggression?

    Default Aggression?

After having my frog for a while now, I've come to realise how silly my first question was 😂
He has grown an awful lot and now eats around 4 small pinkies every other day, with locusts and worms in between.

I'm assuming that he's a male because he croaks at night?

Anyway, lately he's gotten quite 'aggressive' towards me.
Well, he launches at my hands
I have always use feeding tongues when feeding him so I don't know why he'd try to go for my hands /:

Is there anything else I can do so he wouldn't associate my hands with food?
Or is he just being mean? 😂

It's not too much of a problem, more of an annoyance.
Especially when poop picking and moving stuff in the tank.
Being bitten by him hurts 😢

    Thank you for reading c:

Wow, 4 pinkies every other day is WAY too much and too often. They should eat no more than one pinkie mouse in a month. The fat content is higher than what they need and can eventually cause blindness and liver failure. Stick to the insects and nightcrawlers. My adult female eats about one nightcrawler every other day and stays at a healthy weight.

As for the aggression, there's really nothing to do other than avoid putting your hands in front of them. That sounds silly, but they eat based on movement more than anything else. Anything that moves is food in their minds.

    Default Aggression?

I agree with DVirginiana, stick with worms and crickets as staples. Worms are best. Be sure to use proper amphibian calcium with vitamin D3 as a light dusting on his food every other feeding and an amphibian multivitamin dusting one day a week. It is best to only feed one pinkie once a month.

The aggression is as noted above. Try going from behind him for cleanings. It's good that you use tongs for feedings.

Yes, a croaking Pacman is a male. Females can click and grunt.

The pinkies are very tiny, especially for his size
4 should add up to 1?

But wow, I'll defiantly be cutting down on those D:

As he gets older would he get more aggressive? Or

And this is the first 'non mammal' I've ever owned, so answers like this help me a lot ^.^

    Thank you

They each have their own personalities, perhaps yours is just a jerk, my Ornata is. I tong feed him and he will often act disinterested in the food, and wait until I get my hand within striking distance and go for that instead. I have found they will take a minute between strikes, especially if they caught something. If you need to handle the frog, get him to eat something first, then you will have some time before he feels ready to bite again.

You should cut by more then that. No more then one pinky or bigger mouse per month! There is another point, finger reminds a pinky. And since he was fed almost exclusively pinkies....
Save one animal and it doesn't change the world, but it surely changes the world for that one animal!

Aggression is not abnormal for these frogs. Just follow the advice given. He will keep you on your toes.
