Pinkie mice

Thought I'd share some pics of Betty and Sally enjoying their pinky mice. It took a little convincing for Betty, but Sally devoured hers right away.

Isnt it supose to be the width of their eyes at like any angle?

That appears to big to me or im seeing this wrong? I wouldnt feed that size to my little guy but that just me...


Any thoughts?

They do appear bigger in the pics. I wouldn't feed pinkies to males because they are smaller. But for the females they are good for gaining weight. Many people feed pinkies but only as a treat.

Yes Marie, too big and too dangerous in the second pic. It is not pinky, it's fuzzy., put on a head like that it's dangerous, for a frog.
Pinky is ok once in a very while for an adult whites, it's very fattening and hard to digest,but it's ok for variety but not more then one a month. For babies like these two it's not something that should be done.

Food for whites have to be very carefully picked, they tend to eat a lot and can get obese very fast.

Betty is not so much a baby anymore, young but older than Sally. Also Sally is underweight. Lija, I'd really appreciate if you stopped criticizing my every move.

Call me the worry mommy but even with my crickets, if they look too big i throw em out! I rather feed a bit smaller with a higher count than too big! Maybe a overprotective tendency but i dont want to risk my little guys life either!

Those mice were way too big. I really hope the girls can digest them IK and no upcoming issues with that either.

For the love of frogs, please judge your "feeders" better please! Id hate to see them going or becoming sick..

I recall you wondering why they havent poop yet on another post.. they may not either for a while again..

Just a friendly tip.. its the width of their eyes at ANY angles. Meaning the mice you fed were about two times too big..

I am not criticizing, im just stating facts for those people who might see this and think it is okay. Marie - im sure your frog can handle adult cricket the distance between his eyes is a guidline only. Mice is a a very heavy food and needs to be fed with caution, but crickets are okay if gut loaded and supplemented properly.

Both of the frogs are young, neither should be fed fuzzy mice nor kept like you do.


i have to point another fact. This frog is dedicated to frogs and frog loving people. As I stated earlier we won't support improper care or attitude. Consider this as a warning. I suggest you should read our forum terms of use one more time.

Lija did not accuse you of animal abuse, she simply is worried for your frogs. I would not accuse her of accusing you until you read the post correctly. Lija is a very respected member on the forums and doesn't deserve to be treated like that.

Everyone on this forum just wants to see happy, healthy animals. It can be stressful for the frog to have something like that on its face though. A cricket or something small may be fine, but it is stressful for the frog nonetheless. Just imagine it this way, would you want a dead dog sized animal on your head and back like that? I try to think about things like that from a humans perspective, if it would be stressful for me, I don't do it to my frog unless it is 100% necessary.

They are usually chill when you are handling then because they don't want to get eaten. Would you run away from a bear when it might not be able to notice you? It just wants to have the best possible for surviving. My pcf HATES being handled, he/she freaks out so I only do it if absolutely necessary, and when I do it is for less than 10 seconds and I do it with gloves. It is best for the animal to be looked at and not handled if at all possible.

Betty loves being handled. Which sounds weird but the other night I was walking by the tank and she kept following me. I put my hand in and she hopped on and we went for a little walk. Betty is very well tamed. Sally on the other hand, we have to be more careful as she is still very timid.

A little confused as to why you are sharing the anatomy of a mouse with me? I am aware that pinkies can be hard to digest and are to be used ONLY as a treat. Just what I did. Thanks for the info on mice anyhow. What would you suggest as a good treat?
