Okay, so now I'm really confused! I just posted that message and I was moving him to a sick tank (as to not infect Igby if Kibbits is sick), and he was jumping around and fine, but shedding a lot. He's not doing any of the normal "shedding" type of behavior, you know, the opening of the mouth type thing. But he has all the filmy secretions that he's wiping off of himself. Has anyone else seen this behavior when their frog is shedding? Sitting in water to shed/secrete?

    Kurt -

Thank you so much! After having these little guys for so long, and trying to be vigilant to catch things early, I was just so surprised to see this behavior with shedding! I've watched him carefully over the weekend just to make sure there was no other changes, and he's now sleeping comfortably in one of his usual niches in the tank.

Thank you so much for your quick reply! Glad to see I don't have a sick frog on my hands. I decided to bring them both in this morning just for a good checkup. Much rather establish a relationship with the vet now, then when I really need him.

    Thanks again!

Exclamation Re: HELP! Kibbits very sick!

Hi everyone! I wish I could report some good news, but Kibbits behavior has continued to be downhill.

I've looked everywhere in my area for an herb vet and there is NO ONE : ( I am hoping you guys can give me some suggestions. I've looked everywhere online for the type of symptoms he's been exhibiting and not finding any answers!

He continues to be very very inactive, and very lethargic. We have to bother him in order to have him open his eyes. When he does, I'm not seeing any sort of cloudiness. Yet, 99% of the time, the white covering is over them, even at night when normally he'd be jumping around the cage or pouncing on crickets. He is moving from place to place (to sleep) including climbing up to various limbs and trees, but continues to be very inactive at both day and night. We haven't seen him eat, but he's not losing weight and crickets are disappearing. I haven't noticed any discoloration, or color changes apart from the fact that it looks like there are more white/green spots on him than before (the normal spots that WTFs get).

Mainly, I'm just so concerned with how lethargic he seems to be, with his eyes closed all the time! It's been this way for at least two weeks now with no change!

Again, the normal cage conditions have remained the same. The cage was just cleaned this last weekend again, so fresh water, fresh everything. All crickets are dusted with calcium once a week (with the crickets being gutloaded all through captivity). The other frog (Igby) continues to be just fine.

I'm happy to take him to a vet as soon as I find one anywhere near here that will see frogs : (. After the response last time, I figured that he was just shedding and left him be. It's just the duration of the inactivity, and the continued lethargy that is scary to me. Please help!!!

    Exclamation Turn for the worst!

Please help! I can't find any vet in the area that will take frogs, and I'm scouring for places : ( I've called everywhere!

Something is definitely wrong with Kibbits! It looks like his skin is sloughing more. Again, no reddening, but it looks like it's just "dirty" per se...like it's yellowed instead of white. The symptoms remain the same but he's become extremely non-responsive. We've moved him to a quarantine tank.

I've poured through the emergency first aid, but I am so afraid to treat him with the wrong stuff!

Has anyone seen this before? It doesn't look like he's lost any weight. He's moving around the tank (in that we find him in different locations), but he's very inactive and very unresponsive. We can't get him to open his eyes, really. I can't tell if he is bloated (in that he hasn't eaten, but still looks plump) or if he is still eating and not bloated.

    Please, anyone!

Ok get some terbinafine hydrochloride cream (Lamisil), mix 1 ml of it to 200 ml of distilled water. Let the solution sit over night because the cream is slow to dissolve. Soak him in it for 10 minutes daily for the next ten days. See if this helps.

My tiger salamander was acting lethargic and sloughing skin off in a weird kind of way. I thought it might be a fungal infections so I treated him with this solution. After a few days, he was more active, the skins shed off, and he began to look normal. I don't know what it was, but this treatment did the trick. He now leaps for his food again.
