Pcf Impacted

Hello all, I haven't been active since tapatalk bugged it on my phone. I have a feeling that my pcf is impacted I have tried honey baths and that didn't do anything. I can clearly see something in its stomach but he/she hasn't passed anything in almost a week. I'll post pictures in the morning but I don't think the little guy will make it He/she also hadn't moved hardly at all and is sleeping in the same spot almost all day. Please wish me luck with my frog and any tips would be great.

If you can clearly see something maybe that means it's a large something that's not going to be easily passed. I hope not, but if that's the case a vet with knowledge of frogs might be the best option. I'm going to lurk in this thread because I also want to know about steps to take after you've given honey baths and seen no effect. I've heard people suggest that hornworms with their high water content are good for getting things moving, but that's it.

I usually feed hornworms during the summer since I can easily gather them. My frog does not look to good though, the poop looks like it is trying to pass, but no luck so far...

By the way DO NOT feed hornworms from the wild! If they are true hornworms they eat tomato leaves (or some eat tobacco) which are from the nightshade family and are DEADLY. You could inadvertently poison your frog! Hornworms can be ordered online from various companies, and I've even seen them on eBay. These are raised on a special feed that will not harm your froggy.

Here's a pic... You can barely tell but there is a black spot that looks like poop, he/she hasn't moved from that spot in a few days and hasn't been active, even at night

He/she looks okay and will be getting another honey bath tomorrow. I'll keep you guys updated!

Interesting. My frog has been the same way while he was constipated, sitting in the same spot not moving. No obvious hard lump though.

Sometimes it's not always good to let them stay in the same spot for days. Maybe you could try gently moving he/she?

He/she did move around last night for a few hours and then went back to the same spot. He/she always slept on the ground until this last week. I'm confused and I am gonna do everything I can to keep him/her alive

sry didn't see it. Can you pls take a pic from the top, is it bloated? When did he eat and poop last? Is he interested in food at all? What exactly are you feeding the guy? Tong feeding?


Elly, yes there are things can be done other then honey baths, but they all involve vet.

He/she ate about 5 days ago and I fed him/her 4 days ago. I haven't tried feeding him/her yet as I was afraid it would make it worse. I'll get a picture later today. I usually feed him/her crickets with caterpillars as a treat. No tong feeding, just let the insects roam around.

I know those other things involve vets, but do they have to be done by experienced vets? Mine doesn't normally work with amphibians, I don't think he could do surgery, for example.

Elly, yes by experienced with amphibians vets only, some things can be also done by experienced keepers.

i don't see a problem yet. I'd thnk nightcrawlers are out of question. Can you find small hornworms? What caterpillars do you feed?

Hornworms aren't really an option as it is actually getting cold here (its a miracle considering we are in So. Cal). The caterpillars I feed are normal inchworms, I believe the adult moths are fiery skipper moths. I have been feeding these to my insects and my frog for over a year and have never had any problems.

Ok. Let's try to do a honey bath today, followed by regular.but before you do that offer a cricket or that caterpillar, whatever he likes better, but only one. Let's see if interested. Impacted frogs are not interested in food and are bloated, you will also feel a hard lump on his right side looking from top, with head forward. In bad cases you will feel these lumps on both sides.

If Neither applies, don't do anything, but watch if anything changes later on.
