Im wanting to breed slugs, snails(land), red wrigglers, locusts, grasshoppers, roaches?, and other nutritional insects. Since I have my cane toad who now likes to eat big bugs, and mollusks, and my turtles who eat insects as 50% of their diets. Ived been wanting to start some "cultures". I was also wondering, you know the praying mantids? I was thinking I could buy em online and like let em hatch, and kill em. Freeze em, and give as a rare treat for my turtles. The smaller ones Id give to the toad. Id have to break off the pincers though but yeah. Iam also thinking about culturing moths? I want to vary the diet as much as possible.
Any ideas? I know how to culture red wrigglers now. Which is getting a large rubbermaid, loose dirt/leaves/compost and put 1pound of red wrigglers. I heard id have to feed new compost daily.
Anyone breed insects and mollusks? Well besides crickets. I want to see if I can find somewhere some live locusts, and live grasshoppers.
Hi Kevin, Im not sure where you would get Locust your over your way but if you do manage to get your hands on some then I would be more than happy to advise you on breeding. Once you get the temp right then it's easy.![]()
