    Angry Shame on Petco!!!

Took these pics tonight at our local Petco... too bad the top pic is so blurry. This poor frog is all skin and bones, and every time I've seen her she's been sitting in the same spot, on the same Mopani that Jelly Bean sat on, with her eyes glued shut in the same way I'm glad I rescued Jelly before she starved like this poor little frog is doing... I've told them about sick or dying frogs at least four or five different times there! And look what I saw tonight... a brand new shipment of TINY little WTF froglets, some barely an inch long, tossed in with these two sick starving frogs. Disgusting!

That is what they do apparently. I got my whites from Petco also. I asked for the largest ones they had, and mentioned it was a bad idea to have mixed sizes in the same cage. The clerk informed me they had already learned that the hard way... Mine do seen to be springing back now, after the one died. But they are both eating well enough that I actually fed them tonight roaches coated in vitamin powder and they both ate. This was a first for me, it took several weeks to get here. At any rate if I buy frogs again it will be from a breeder recommended here. I want to rescue all the frogs in the pet stores but we have to stop purchasing them there or they will keep selling them... Maybe someday pet stores will close and be replaced by supply houses, and micro zoos, where the animals are well cared for... Probably not but it would be nice.

poor froggies! I hope those bigger ones wont eat the little ones!

i got my red eye at petco... My mom had ordered one to be delivered there. The poor thing was in a seven inch long critter keeper, put inside the tank of two other frog species. It was day time and they had like 5 adult crickets running all over while he was trying to sleep. On the floor in the middle of the tank i might add as they hadnt added any plants to the mini container. And there he was right out in the open in front of every passer by. Then the guy who took him out of the container didnt wash his hands or put on gloves before transferring him to the "take home" box. that was all after poor Frenchy had been shipped there. He didnt eat for a week and a half after id taken him home. And hed slept all the time, even at night. Finally he came around though and is now a healthy, happy little fella!

Scott and Alexander, I'm glad your frogs are finally starting to come around and perk up! It's unbelievable what they do at some of these places. Granted, not all stores are the same, but after they have been told, multiple times, you think they'd change things, but nope! Guh...

mine has looked like it was at least making an effort to keep the temperature and humidity correct and the cage clean. But it's still overcrowded with lots of little babies and one large female. The small cages would probably be okay if there was more turnover, but frogs aren't popular pets.

There is no petco in Calgary, but there is a petland. A couple weeks ago I went there and the whites all looked quite well except one, it was skinny, bony and sick. And they were asking 150$ for it! Also they put other frog breeds in with the whites which isn't recommended either! I told the guy to take out the starving frog because it obviously wasn't getting fed. He was like " yeah it does look kinda gross and skinny." I'm going back to check it out today, hopefully in better condition. C

That's really sad... *shakes head* and they don't really care, i'm sure, just take the "gross" one out because people might not come and shell out $150 for a frog otherwise. And keeping them in with other species is just stupid!

So as I said, I went to petland today and it was gone! Looks like it was replaced with a beautiful blue eyed, dark colored whites in good condition. Hoping to get him soon! He was so dark, almost black with those gorgeous blue eyes! Also I got tree fern panels! 100$ for all 4 packages, but it will be worth it! C
