Are there any common plants that are not frog safe. I'm plant shopping and see a lot at home depot I like. especially this fuzzy kind of one with purple leaves. I know I can use pothos and the like. But I don't want to buy something and mistakenly kill my frogs. I see they sell phalaenopsis orchids now, can I use those?
You can use the orchids so long as you have very good drainage. If they sit in water, they're going to die. I have 2 of the "mini" ones mounted on the background with sphagnum moss to help retain some moisture but also give air to their roots. I'm not sure of the fuzzy kind that you're talking about ... purple passion? Like a dark green purple type plant? I tried those and did not have success in either of my vivs, but that doesn't mean that you won't. Usually, if it says "tropical," it should be safe for the viv. Big box stores...you can usually find several species of dracaenas, those are usually always safe. Caladium, anthurium, philodendrons, and spathiphyllum also seem to be readily available around here in the big box stores.
Otherwise, you can always shop online.
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
Phalaenopsis like to dry out between watering and like good air circulation, grown on a branch and sprayed once a week will do them well enough, the darker the roots the better after watering. then only re water when they turn pale grey again. rain or acidic water ifs preferred too.
Why not Look at dartfrog.com then plant selection to see the type of plants suitable for frog vivs.
