Quick Viv question

Hey guys I just had a quick question regarding the false bottom of a Viv. If I have a false bottom with proper substrate, plants and a waterfall, etc, would I need to clean the tank regularly or does this make it a self sustaining tank? Hope that makes sense I am just wanting to make a self sustaining viv to cut back on maintenance and cleaning.

A properly constructed planted vivarium does become a mini eco-system in a sense. Proper substrate and drainage, leaf litter and the addition of a clean up crew such as Sprintails help. Depending on the species you plan on keeping there could be very little clean up involved (except the glass).

Thank you so much for your quick response. The species I had in mind was to build one for my Pacman frog with a little more substrate than usual to allow for him burying himself. Do you think this work would work for a pacman or mostly for frogs that are more actively moving around the tank?

I am no expert on Pacman frogs, so I will let the experts here on the forum respond. I know they can be a little messier if not alot then dart frogs. With my dart vivariums I do very little maintenance. Hope someone is able to help. Share a pic when you have.

Thanks again this is my current set up but I was too excited to get it set up I didnt think about not being able to plant real plants in a tank without drainage >_< planning on starting over and making one right
