We did try, but the place we went has 100s of thousands of mosquitos No place that is near besides there, I may try to get some more as soon as it gets cooler, so Cal so it doesn't exactly get cool. I may put a mirror next to the cage tomorrow and see what his/her reaction is.

I think I will be posting everyone I hear a call/noise He/she just made another squeak. It is also just a squeak not like a chorus, I may try to mist the tank and out the mirror next to the tank. Anyone else have any tips out advise on how they got their frogs to call for the first time?

sHEila just started up one day, I think he might have been calling back to wild PCFs who were letting off territorial and land calls right outside the frog room window. Funny thing is he also apparently called back to geese overhead, and other random sounds... of course then I made that first video deliberately trying to get him to sound off, and it sort of worked, heh. later he got better at talking with me, though now I don't want him to strain himself! :O He hasn't tried calling tonight, but I haven't fed them either... they were eager to eat too, expect it every day, but right now he's supposed to go without food as long as prudently possible due to his prolapse issues so I didn't feed him or Jelly tonight (Jelly is FAT though!) I was going to go to every other night with the rest of them anyway, but then I found a hidden cricket in Shirley and Honey's tank. Shirl gobbled it up so then I felt sorry for Honey (who's thinner anyway) and gave him and Shirl a couple wax worms each. They took them by hand (which was nice!) so there wasn't any hunting sounds to get sHEila and Jelly all worked up. Tomorrow I need to find a way to feed Jelly behind sHEila's back though :O Guess I'll take him(her?) out of the main tank and feed her in one of the small keepers. I sure feel sorry for sHEila but have to do what's best for him... *sigh* I think I will try to feed Honey and Shirley by hand again too, just a couple crickets each, then fast them all on Saturday since they need to be medicated on Sunday and that's when sHEila will get to eat... I really REALLY hope this prolapse resolves it's self and does NOT come back! I'm not going to be feeding any crickets to sHEila for quite a while I think, so really need to round up those night crawlers.

Oh! Just thought of something... you can try playing various PCF calls for your girl(boy??) and see how froggy reacts to those

(S)He will not need a "friend" to be happy So you're okay there. My frogs respond to other calls (and ambulances and stuff on tv and my daughter playing the violin) sometimes but not other times. You'll probably just have to wait and see if it continues. If you notice him/her getting vocal, I'd try recording it. Chances are, you have a male though. How big is (s)he snout to vent?

SVL is 1 1/2 inches... Haven't heard a peep out of him/her since last night. I did put a mirror next to the cage to see if I get any reaction.

Hmm, well size isn't definitive for male or female at 1 1/2 inches, but most females are definitely bigger than male PCF's from my experience. Here's a good article on them Pacific Chorus Frog Natural History

If it is a male, that could explain why he/she never really gains weight, he/she has always been skinny.

Just a thought, but is there a way I can stimulate a breeding season? Or would the thumb pads still not show up?

Well you'd have to put a PCF into "hibernation" when simulating a breeding cycle, and I don't really recommend that... especially if she really IS a she, and develops eggs, and you have no male to breed her with come spring! Since your frog is from So. Cal, things might just be diff for frogs there than here... they'd still have to have some sort of cycle though.

Now my Whites Tree Frog guys are young, too young to have been through a hibernation cycle prior to me buying them, and here they are with nuptial pads so who knows there

Hrmm, would it help if I just misted a bunch and increased the humidity? I have no way to induce hibernation either way so that's not really an option. Would decreasing the water level to stimulate a dry season then increasing it back up help?

You could try misting more... my guys seem to call when I mist them, and I do that about 3-4 times a day lately. I'd be careful about letting her(him?) get too dry though, especially if you're not actually going to cycle her(him)
