Silicone does the trick. I had a big one that was about 10" that I couldn't figure out a good use for, it was just so darn big. I ended up cutting it into three pieces including a corner one for a build that's nearly done.
You can also leave more of the bark attached when you remove it from the tree, like I've done here: http://www.frogforum.net/vivarium-te...-treefrog.html
Nice photos. really awesome. Need some more pictures
Thought I should do an update as it looks quite different now. How barren it looked in the original setup! New front and top view, shortly after I did some pruning:
A few changes to note- I added a pond last year by making a portion of the drainage layer accessible, though it rarely gets used it looks nicer than the bowl. I added a couple of peperomias, plants that I and the occupant have fallen in love with. The stock green Peperomia obtusifolia (the bottom left plant in the "top view" picture) grows right from the bottom of the tank to the top and I still have to give it regular prunings. There's also a new maranta (prayer plant) that provides a nice canopy of foliage over the pond.
I do mist with distilled, but I water the plants in the rock wall by just pouring normal water along the top of it and letting it flow down. Some splashing is inevitable, hence the hard water stains on the glass that I don't always get around to cleaning up.
I haven't mentioned the occupant in this thread before, so here he is, hiding behind his peperomia in the vivarium and taking a break on a snake plant during an out of vivarium experience:
Bamf, American Green treefrog, Hyla cinerea.
Looks great!

looks good.
About the styrofoam, i like the white stuff personally for how i do my builds because you can scratch it up with your fingernail and it gives a nice rocky look and texture
Very nice tank Brian! I love the idea of the mushrooms. It made me pay attention to what I have in my backyard and realise that I have one!!
I'm thinking of a way to include it in my tank now
This is it:
