I ordered 50 small dubias before I realized that they're going to last hardly any time at this rate and won't be enough to start a breeding colony. So yeah, I think you're going to need all the bugs you can get.
How do you keep your crickets, Elly? You can extend lifetime of these guys by giving them their own enclosure and a constant source of food and water & clean out in between batches. I've had very little die off most of the time, when I manage to purchase good healthy crickets to begin with (*shakes fist at stupid Petco!*).

They have their own enclosure and I give them pieces of carrots changed out every few days and water crystals. I had about five die off over a couple weeks.

That's not too bad of a rate really
Well, depending on how many you keep at one time I guess. I've got about 300- at the moment, started as smalls but the darn things sure grow fast!

Buy Live Crickets and Worms | Armstrong Crickets I've been thinking of culturing crickets myself, but that is just not something I'm going to be able to do in this apartment

Right now I'm buying from Pet Smart but I'd like to get mine shipped in from Armstrong's eventually.
I don't remember if Armstrong's is one I tried, I will though.

I just read that you can keep them from growing fast if you keep them cool?

Re: Crazy as a box of frogs
Likely, but I can't test the theory since it's about 75 F in the apartment most of the time... my mother, the frogs, and the African violets all like it warmer than I do!

I'm glad you saved these guys, particulalry if they are common Grays
(Hyla versicolor is listed as Significantly Rare by the N.C. Natural Heritage Program.) I've never raised tads and froglets so will leave answers to those with more experience than myself in this area, but I wish you all the best of luck and would love to read further updates!

I looked it up and you were right, I got it backwards, lol.
