After trying to post a picture of my rescued tree frog in my introduction and failing...here it is!
And the spell check has altered my title! Hyla....not hydra!
Awww what a cutey! Gray Treefrog - North Carolina <<< You can listen to the different calls here (since your little guy is calling) and figure out if you have hyla versicolor or hyla chrysoscelis!![]()
2.0.3 Hyla versicolor "Eastern Gray Tree Frogs"
2.2.0 Agalychnis callidryas "Red Eyed Tree Frogs"
0.0.3 Dendrobates auratus "Turquoise and Bronze"
0.0.1 Anaxyrus fowleri "Fowler's Toad"
His calling Is defenitly hyla versicolor! He's a lucky little chap !
The colour change is amazing...sometimes he is bright yellow...then later almost black! Totally amazed by him! Think I could be hooked on frogs now....im planning on fitting out his enclosure with a waterfall etc....any tips as to how much humidity these guys need/ cope with?
I know, they're neat. The first one I saw was white and I thought it was some bizarre albino tree toad.
I'm not sure about humidity, but an internet search pulls up suggestions from 60% to 70-80%. Judging from the humidity around here, I'd say 60% sounds good as long as there's a soaking bowl. (But there are chrysocelis here. I don't know about versicolor.)
Here are a couple of pics the afternoon he was rescued

So I could fit the tank out with a fogger and waterfall? Poor guy has had a tough time and I want to give him a great habitat! He's ok just now...has branches and a water bowl and happily munches on his crickets!
Check out the Vivariums and Terrariums section for stuff about foggers and waterfalls. As for foggers, it depends on how dry your house is and how big the tank is. Smaller tanks might do okay with the occasional squirt from a spraybottle.
Edit: Grays are temperate not tropical, so I wouldn't think you'd need to maintain higher than 80% humidity.
Will do thanks! Really I just like the look the fogger creates!! Maybe ill have to look at some rainforest frogs....hehe
