Default Live locusts for sale in US

Back in 1999 or 2000 my cousin brought live locusts to feed her beardie, most were yellow and black with red eyes but some were green, they were fed carrots and romaine lettuce. She lives in U.S. and I'm positive they were locusts but I don't know where to find them now. They sell canned locusts but I need live for movement.

Thats what I have heard but it doesn't explain why in the past they've been sold, someone could still be breeding them if stock was in the US many years ago, and my cousin was a kid and her parents never traveled so perhaps it was the exotic reptile shop that sold them, they used to have a huge moniter lizard and alligator sounds like they sold them illegally you can't find those sold here anymore.

Yeah my guess would be that they were illegally sold. That or maybe before laws banning them were created/enforced?

What you describe sounds a lot like the desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria), but it might be another species. They are commonly cultured in other parts of the world, but as Matthew said they are illegal to transport here in the states. There are Schistocera native to the US that could potentially be captured locally and cultured in captivity... I'd just stick with crickets (or roaches, or some other decent, obtainable feeder).
