Licenses for frogs

There are no species of amphibians exempt from licence requirements in Western Australia. The taking of amphibians from the wild for any purpose, except under a taker's licence, is illegal, and any people attempting to illegally keep these animals will be prosecuted.
The Department of Environment and Conservation issues licences. There are four species for which keeper's licences may be issued: Litoria caerulea (Green Tree Frog; category 2), Litoria moorei (Motorbike Frog; category 2), Litoria splendida (Magnificent Tree Frog; category 3), and Heleioporus albopunctatus (Western Spotted Frog; category 4). The lower category frogs are generally easier to care for, and certainly cheaper to obtain a licence for.


I would like an amphibian license. I live in Western Australia. You need a license for captive bred frogs too. I'm under sixteen so I'm only able to get a class one license. Where can I get information and applications for a class one amphibian licenses in WA?

P.S The department of Environment and Conservation has split into the department of Parks and Wildlife and another department. But their website has no information on class one licenses.

One more thing do you know who stocks UV amphibian lamps in Perth? When I say lamps I mean like desk lamps not bulbs. Also, how can I fit them in a enclosure?

You do not need UV for frogs. You do not need anything special at all unless you're growing plants in the viv. You also should never put a light INSIDE the enclosure, that puts the frogs at risk for burns.

The only reason I'm doing that is licensers are picky. They what me to light and heat it otherwise I might not get my license.

You can get a decent light and put it outside of the vivarium. The risk to the frog if you put a light inside the viv is not worth whatever license you might get, in my opinion. If the licensers require UV, it will not hurt the frogs, so you could use it, but it is not necessary for their health.

If you need heat or at least show them yiu have a heat source get a reptile heating mat or ceramic heating bulb or heating cable and an outlet thermostat or some other kinda thermostat. Outlet thermostats plug right into the wall, you sent it for a temp and it turn some thing on/off... They see that and they should be happy. Can probably find them on your version of Amazon or ebay.

I agree a light should almost never be in the tank, and i generally wouldnt even put a heat source in the tank with the possible exception of a hot rock out.reptile heating cable, maybe a mat if it was designed to go in a tank. I prefer to stick stuff to the sides, under the tank or above it.
