Thumbs up First toad-- One week in.

    Hello

I found a little Canadian toad while doing yard work eight days ago.

It lives in a gallon milk jug with the top removed, on a pad of moss and earth.
There is a little pool of water for it.

I don't have an efficient method of catching food for it.
I put the toad in a pint jar and go outside and throw ants into the jar, and it eats them.
I get bored after about 20 ants a day.

I don't know how much I should be feeding it.
It hasn't grown as far as I can tell.
    What is their growth rate?

Nice to be here and nice to meet you all.

Welcome, are you planning on keeping it? If so you are going to need to upgrade from a milk jug but I am sure you knew that. Its best to buy the food instead of catching it. As you know, it is daunting after awhile and you cant be certain the bugs are free from pesticides and other harmful chemicals. I am sure it would enjoy some crickets, earthworms, waxworms, mealworms etc. They can all be found at petstores and such.

Also make sure the water you are using is dechlorinated tap or spring water...

If you feed it well it should grow quite noticeably each week.

Hi, thanks for replying and the advice. I'm going to keep it if I can source a food supply. I almost let it go today, but I couldn't do it haha.
