Default Mail order vs pet store

Once Bonk is better and gets a clean fecal I'm going to move him into his permanent tank and possibly get him a roommate. If I get a second frog mail order sounds better in some ways, but I'm a bit concerned about the long trip. Anyone have problems with frogs getting shipped to them? No problems at all? I'm hoping for a not-too-stressed frog, possibly a female since I hear they tend to be more laid back. If I bought from the pet store I'd have the advantage of being able to examine the frog, then again I'd have a slightly better chance of getting a healthier frog online. I say slightly because the people at the company say they never test frogs for anything, they just get them from the breeders.

I would trust a reputable online breeder any day over what I might find in the pet store. I have never found a frog in a pet store that's been kept in great condition or that I'm sure hasn't been wild caught though, so that is part of my reasoning.

Yeah, the more I think about it the less reason there is to buy from the place in my town. Sure I'd get to see the frog, but I don't care about color, just temperment. When the time comes, I think I'll just hope to get a calm frog. At least I'll know it's captive bred and kept in a large enough enclosure. I'm still wary about getting it shipped, but being tossed around in a tiny container for a night has got to be better than being in a too-small tank for a month. Just thought I'd ask other people about their experiences with mail order.

My red eyed tree frogs came through great. Just some minor nose rubs that healed up easily on their own. I was incredibly nervous though! Make sure that you check temps before ordering so that it is not shipped in either extreme.

I know that some places will actually wait to ship until the weather gets better to better guarantee live arrival. You can always go to a show if there is one close

I'd love to go to a show, sadly I live far away from any.

You are better of buying from a reputable breeder who specializes in frogs. The petstore can be one of the worst options in terms of start up costs, parasites, and general stress on the animals since they are most likely wild caught.
