American Toad During Winter

Hello,
I have a wild-born American Toad that I caught in April. He eats really well and is always hungry. Now that winter is approaching im wondering what the protocol for toads in the winter is. Since he is originally from the wild and I don't think he has had to hibernate before (he was quarter size when I found him im guessing born this year) im not sure what I should do. I catch him lots of worms, crickets, and other bugs each day and I know I can't do that in the winter. Do I get food from a pet store or breed crickets/worms?

Hello and welcome to FF! Good info on your toad care in here: Frog Forum - Toad Basics - Keeping ground-dwelling Toads. A care sheet for Bufo, Anaxyrus, Spea, Scaphiopus, Ollotis, Alytes, Pelobates. Keep your toad at normal room temps and although his appetite might slow down a tad; he will not need to hibernate. Can feed him pet shop bought crickets. Get them same or smaller than distance between toads eyes and gut load them for 24-48 hours with lettuce, carrots, and cherios cereal. A better food would be not dyed Canadian night crawlers available at local bait shops. Don't forget to dust his food in supplements.
