I somehow don't buy that this so called 'living gravel' will do an adequate job throughout the frog's entire life. It looks like a set up for accidental animal cruelty to me. That's like seeing people get those tiny tanks for a Betta when they need at least a gallon to be happy. Sure the animal might be able to survive in it.. but the certainly can't *live* in it.

I have not seen these in a store, but there's somewhere here selling them, because I get a lot of customers who come in with those tanks. I try to explain what they need, but you know, it's like telling a customer that a 1.5 gallon tank does not work for all the fish listed on the box.

It is not only insane but inhumane. I have looked through several sources on the keeping of Xenopus. Most sources seem to allow a little more than a gallon per ACF. I have seen one source that recommended that you can put 6 frogs in about 4 gallons of water The folks at Xenopus Express seem to be the most resonable, allowing 5 gallons per frog (which I agree with), their reason is that these frogs like to swim.

I can imagine that since ADFs are smaller, you can put them in a pint of water. Gosh, I don't put my Bettas in that little amount of water. I don't understand how people can get away with this.

Aquatic frogs are tough animals and can survive extreme conditions. Amphibians are cool animals and deserve our respect and proper care.

Its because they are frogs, and not even the brightly colored ones at that. Try doing that to cat or dog and you will find yourself in hand cuffs facing criminal charges.

I think we should genetically modify amphibians so they will grow fur - maybe they'll get some respect. No, probably not a good idea, I have allergies to pet dander.
