Hi I have 6 toads witch I've had for a year, recently I had noticed that the toads behavior had changed, they seem to be hiding away and not eating and staying in one place... my first thought was that they are getting ready to hibernate, but it would appear not and that there is a serous problem, the temperature of my tank has always stayed the same since I got them.
Last week I have put some crickets in the tank for the toads and the crickets were still in there today. 2 days ago I decided to lift out the bark that the toads like to hide under in the tank and the toads were very pale in color and one seemed very poorly. I took out the poorly toad and inspected him and he doesn't move very fast anymore but his nice and fat though but something seems wrong he don't look right.
Today I found a dead toad in my tank witch was a small one. I have removed the dead toad from the tank and have inspected it but couldn't see what might have caused it to die.
The only logical thing that I can think of is that the toads may have a virus or disease. The other toads appear to be fine apart from one mentioned above. I have cleaned out the tank with very hot water and steam to try and eliminate any harmful bacteria that might be infecting the toads I've also removed the crickets and cleaned all the other bits that are in the tank.
I have a feeling that I'm going to lose the other toads as they have stopped eating, what could this be? I really don't wanna find another dead toad. I need to get to the bottom of what could be the problem, if this is a disease "witch I think it is", is there there anything I can do?
Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks
