To do any plants above a False bottom style tank (please see http://www.frogforum.net/vivarium-te...ion-101-a.html for information on False Bottoms) you do it the same as you would a tank without live plants. Except you want to use a soil that will provide nutrients, Last long term, and not compact. The hobby standard is ABG mix which can be bought from several of the website sponsors. You want the soil to be around 2.5 - 3" deep. Then plant your plants in the soil. Make sure the water level below your false bottom does not touch the soil or you will end up with a nasty mess.
If you are not doing a water feature in your tank you can do the traditional Drainage layer (also found in the above mentioned thread).
