Bufo cognatus calling

Here is a short video recording of a single Bufo cognatus calling at sunset. There is also a good number of Hyla chrysoscelis calling around the same pond. I will take a flashlight with me tonight and see if I can catch the little dudes in action.

Listen carefully, the flooded river, the factory I work at and the Cope's Gray Treefrogs darn there drown out the toad.




They really do sound like a ball-peen hammer being whacked on an anvil!

The yellow lites are a wastewater treatment plant, but feel free to tell your friends it is a monster...

Perhaps I misidentified the call. He is going off right at the start and near the end. He was about 100 yards away in spot I was ill equipped to get to. Hard to year him over the frogs. Will bring a d8rectional mike for the next storm.

Nope, not a cognatus in there that I can hear. There are various anurans but no cognatus. Might just be I can't pick it out from the video. Have you heard a cognatus calling? It's quite likely the loudest frog call in the world and it's ear bleedingly loud if you're within a few feet of the toad.

Yup, I have heard them. Have my gear with me tonight and will get a better recording when the hail quits.
