Hello I am a brand new tree frog keeper, by the way of picking two whites up at an expo yesterday. I tried feeding them but they did not except waxworms. Should I try dubias? Mealworms? Moths? (I know the size thing, about the no bigger than the space between their eyes). I currently have them in a 12"12"18" exo terra tank, with eco earth bedding, sphagnum moss, large water dish, food dish, and climbing decor. I also have a red light going at the lowest setting to boost the temp up alittle to get it between 75-80 degrees on the hotspot. Any help on how to get them to eat will be helpful.
Thanks,
Domitor
Try crickets. The crickets should be dusted. They will outgrow your tank. usually there is a min of 20 gal per frog. Some argue that a 30 gal tank for 2 frogs is ok but IMO the bigger the better. You also need to make sure they have access to water and that it's somewhat humid in the tank. I aim for no less than 50% humidity in mine. The moss is an impaction hazard. I would take it out. Give them time. They have been through a lot. Also, you might want to think about a quarantine tank and getting a fecal test done at your local herp vet.
I am sure others will with more knowledge will pipe up and add to this.
Congrats on your new frogs and welcome to the forum!![]()
Here is the care sheet. Frog Forum - White's Tree Frog Care - Litoria caerulea
Hello
Welcome to Frog Forum
Lisa has you on the right track !She is right - "give them time"
Mealworms and waxworms should be very limited - occasional treat only. ( if even, used at all)
If you culture the wax worms ---> they will love the moths.
( you don't want to give them moths from outside ! )
They are still adjusting.
Try covering three sides of the enclosure with a lg towel or something similar---this will help them feel more safe.
Be sure to de-chlorinate the water for their soaking dish of which should be changed daily/ rinsed in hot tap water/ no soap.
Lisa attached a link to a great care sheetKeep a eye on the interior enclosure temp !
If they are not kept warm enough they will not be able to digest their food !
Avoid handling them. It just adds to their stress of adjusting to their new enclosure.
There are other stickies you will want to read:
Quarantine
Medications
Testing
Feeder Bowl

Ok so I will take youyr advice and try feeding them waxworms moths, I used to keep crickets but I switched to Dubias only because I heard they are much better to keep and are more nutritional. I'm keeping them temporarily in their tank right now, and will switch them over to my beardies 55g exo terra when his new Do It Yourself cage is complete. Their humidity seems to be about 60% most of the time (and I dechlorinate all the water, I'm used to it because of all my fish tanks water changes). The other reason for switching over to dubias was that my parents thought the crickets were annoying when they kept getting out of their holding containers.
I've gathered that earthworms are also nutritious, though you may need to cut them down to bite-size. Mine will take a segment of a worm. On the forums, I've seen someone comparing wax worms to donuts. Frogs apparently like them, but White's are so sluggish and tend to gain weight so easily that they don't really need the extra fat. Something like that.
