Starting to cycle my new FBT tank. Excited to get these guys in here. Theres a filter and heater in the back corner. It cascades down the wood like a waterfall. Going to add a bunch of guppies and plants in the substrate and maybe a bristlenose pleco too at some point.![]()

Looks interesting, will be great with some aquatic plants growing out of the water too, but be ready to loose some guppies to hungry toads, and also they may suffer from the excretions from the toads skin, partial water changes will help with that. Of course if you breed the toads, the fish may get their own back on the tadpoles.
Also OFBT don't like it to warm.
Hard to tell from pic, but you might want to consider adding some more land for them. The addition of some aquatic plants would look good too.
Yes the guppies would mostly be a supplemental food source to the toads that I will continuously replenish. Definitely going to get some water plants in a few weeks once it cycles a bit.
I would definitely stay away from the Bristlenose Pleco.
I have one that's about 7-8 years old, and he's tears into anything that touches him. They have those spines in their nose that shoot out, Wolverine style. And they HURT.
I can only imagine what those spines could do to a frog.
Nice looking tank
I had a bunch of guppies in my tank for a few months and nothing happened, they always tried to hunt the without successes. Has anyone ever seen them eat guppies ?
I got tired of them pooping all over the place so i hand feed them to the toads
Some pics of it set up. Four toads, six guppies, two snails![]()

Nice looking set up now, but a bit more land area would be better, OFBT are usually found in the shallows amongst plant weed and the bank side, or on rafts of aquatic plants, the reason they don't eat the guppies may well be the water is to deep for them, I have never seen them feed below the water, only catching prey above water and eating it very often in shallow water, they like to be able to feel the substrate under their rear legs from my experience.
A few larger stones and lowering the water level would be better for the toads if not the fish.
Funny you should say that my guys seem to love the water. I've seen them take crickets from the water surface with ease. They also swim under the water and even rest on the substrate fully submerged. The guppies are fed and cared for as equals to the frogs. Not that I'd be heartbroken if they did eat them. Each toad as its own little personality I suppose.
That is what I said, the fish won't be eaten, as the toads will feed from the surface, but not under the water, hence shallower water at least in places lets them hunt more easily and stops the crickets drowning to quickly. My European FBT will dive under water if I startle them, or take the lid off, but they feed on the land and planted area.
As long as they feed and thrive is all that matters in the end.
Awesome setup and healthy looking toads!
Also smart move adding the snails, my tank would benefit from adding a cleaning staff.
I would suggest doing a weekly water change since you have both guppies and toads.
