I bought these tadpoles from the pet store he said they where either fire belly toads or bullfrog I am leaning towards bullfrog based on what I have seen online. What is 5 he best temperature for them, thanks
this is right after we got them
this is after two weeks
Some more information
One of the two tadpoles I got died a week after I got them the remaining one (my daughter named him Casper) is now about 3 inches long and the water temperature is 72° F. I have him in a 3 gallon plastic tank with a Tetra 3 in 1 in tank filter (small) with gravel (10 lbs) in a slope and I have been feeding him the granulated tadpole food
Hello and welcome to FF! Those look like Bullfrog tads. What is their current size? You can also add to their diet boiled lettuce and any vegetarian fish flake food. Wondering what affected other tad; what water are you using for them? Is it dechlorinated tap?
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
I am using the pre dechlorinated water from the pet store now, originally I was using dechlorinated tap and I didn't have a filter at first either, oh and the plants in the tank are fake. I am considering getting a 10 gallon tank and I got a heater for the water but am worried as to whether or not I should use it, what temp should it be?
If American Bullfrog tads; they will should be fine at normal room temps.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
The gentleman at the pet store said to raise the temp to 78-80 to get them to start metamorphosing, did he not know what he was talking about? BTW this is the same person who told he didn't know what kind they were.
I just go a 10 gallon tank with a better filter and 5 more pounds of gravel with so live plants so excited u can't wait you get it all set up I will share pictures
I just got done setting up my new enclosure for my tadpole I think he likes it
Here is Casper's new enclosure

What you you think?
That should be fine for tadpole.
Remember to take care of the enclosure and it will take care of your frog!
I have a better picture of Casper I was hoping it would assist in identifying him there is a yellow arrow point to what I think is his tympanum which is on both sides![]()
I don't think that the tympanum is visible until metamorphosis? The tad is looking bullfrog to me. They have a tube on the side of their heads that expels water. Might be what that is

I agree, he has been getting more frog shaped in the past few days, his head is a lot less round, I don't know if this means anything :P
